Pier 1

Pier 1 has a very good selection of table runners and tablecloths, including checks, stripes, floral and geometric designs, many in summer colors.  The top row is all tablecloths.  Special attention to the one on the right, as it is actually designed for patio tables with umbrellas, and sold online only.  Most tablecloths come in the typical sizes, many have table runners in the same pattern.  The black check tablecloth comes in 70” round, but that is only available online.  Most have napkins in the same pattern.  The bottom two rows are table runners.  Most are cotton, but a few are cotton and linen.   All come in 72” length, and the Carnival stripe on the bottom left also comes in 108” length.  All are 13” r 14” wide.  Some also have placemats or napkins in the same pattern.

The top row shows placemats.  The Monstera Leaf on the left is 16.5” x 18” and is ethylene-vinyl acetate (basically plastic, and easily cleaned).  On the right is a set of 4 cotton placemats in spring/summer colors.  In the bottom row, on the left is a beaded turtle napkin ring.  The napkin ring in the middle and the napkins on the right are also the Monstera Leaf pattern.

Find these décor items in Pier 1 stores and online at P1 DÉCOR. for tablecloths, runners and placemats, and P1 NAP for the napkins and napkin rings.

Oriental Trading Company

Oriental Trading Company has an amazing array of party supplies.  They started out using catalogs to sell to teachers, expanded to corporate sales and now sell to everyone online.

The flamingos on the left above are sold in a set of 2.  The metal stakes are 9.75” and 12”; the flamingos are 8” x 3” and 9” x 5.5”, making the taller flamingo just over 21” on the stand, and the shorter about 18” with the stand.  Assembly is required.  Most reviewers were reasonably happy with the quality, especially for the price, and most said the assembly process wasn’t bad.  On the left is the Coastal Seaside sailboat which is sold as a centerpiece.  It is 17.5” x 9.25” x 1.5”.  The ship is wood with cotton sales.  The Website price is $13.88 for both the flamingo set and the sailboat.  While the sailboat is certainly table top size, the flamingos could be used either on a table or the floor.  Find these décor items online at OTC DÉCOR.

Decorating with Lights

In this section we feature traditional and new ways that lighting can reinforce the party theme, enhance the party’s ambience, or set the whole tone of your party, making it more romantic or fun .  Candles are perennial favorites because colors can change with the seasons, or lovely neutral colors work year round, and they can be displayed in a variety of interesting ways.  Candle holders can be decorations in their own right.  Party lights have also been popular.  Now technology has brought us micro string lights, “flameless” candles, floating tea candles and submersible lighting at prices that are affordable.  And with minimal effort, you can incorporate lighting into your party decorations.
Most companies selling the new lighting forms are focusing their photography on the lights themselves, rather than showing how they can be used.  See our DECORATING WITH LIGHTS board on Pinterest® for some examples of how string lights and the various new kinds of “candles” can be used alone and in combination with traditional decorative lighting.

Create your own amazing new party lighting.
