Serving Plates, Bowls, Spreaders & Appetizer Picks

 Pier 1

Pier 1 offers more variety and selection of fall themed dishes than any other major retailer.  Serveware from Pier 1 features pumpkins, leaves, fall colors and more.

The top row features Pier 1’s pumpkin serveware.  The  figural platter on the left is about 12” x 11” x 1”.  The lidded bowl in the center is about 6” x 6” and the soup tureen is about 9” x 7”.  All are made of stoneware.  The Maple Leaves bowl and platter in the middle row are made of glass.  The bowl is about 12” x 3” and the platter is about 16” x 11” x 1.5”.  The bottom row includes the rectangular Watercolor Pumpkin ceramic platter (about 14” x 10”) on the left, a galvanized iron wagon server (about 20” x 10” x 6”) in the middle and the round glass Traditional Pumpkin serving platter (about 16.5” x 11.5”) on the right.  Find these pieces and more fall serveware in Pier 1 stores and online at P1 SERVE.

Christmastree Shops and & That! Stores

Christmas Tree Shops operates over 70 locations, including a few named “& That.”  The stores are mostly in the northeast or southeast including 20 states.  They have a broad selection of home decor and entertaining items, at amazingly low prices.  Most items are sold individually.  They no longer sell on their website as they’re concentrating on sharing new ideas instead.  We like them so much that we’ are still including them in this section.  They’re definitely worth a visit, however you do it.

The pumpkin shaped platter on the left in the top row is 9” diameter, and there is a matching bowl.  The platter to the right is part of the Harvest Pumpkin dinnerware collection.  The middle row features tidbit plates, pumpkin shape and two leaf shapes.  The rectangular trays (about 15” x 7”) and oval platter (about 20: x 14”) in the bottom row are Melamine.  They are part of the Grainhouse Blue/Ivory Pumpkin collection.  Find these serveware items and more in Christmastree Shops or & That! Stores or online at CTS SERVE.

Pottery Barn

Pottery Barn returns this year with their signature Harvest Pumpkin pattern.  On the left is the serving bowl (ironstone with glazed finish 14” diameter, and holds about 1 gallon).  The oval platter in the middle is fully turkey size.  The rectangular platter on the left is 14” x 8.5” x 1.25”.  Both are stoneware with applied decal and glaze.  Find these pieces and other fall serveware in Pottery Barn stores and online at PB SERVE.

Williams Sonoma

All items above are part of Williams Sonoma’s Harvest Pumpkin Collection.  Most of the collection styles feature beautiful images on a black background, with 14-karat gold alloy rims.  The top row features the Harvest Pumpkin pattern rectangular serving platter (16.75” x 12.5”) and the serving bowl (13.5” x 3”, holds about 4 quarts).  The middle row features the Harvest Bloom  pattern serving bowl (11” x 2.75”, holds about 3 quarts) and oval serving platter (19.75” x 14”).  The bottom row  features the Botanical Pumpkin pattern oval serving platter (19.5” x 14”) and serving bowl (14” x 3.75”, holds about 5.75 quarts) on the left  and a salad bowl on the right.  At 8” diameter, the salad bowls are large enough to be used for side dishes too.

The serveware in the row above is all made of sand cast aluminum finished with antique brass.  The pumpkin shaped plat on the left is a condiment plate.  In the middle is a 3 leaf condiment set, and on the right is a  leaf pattern serving bowl (14” x 13.75”, holds about 2.5 quarts).  These would enhance the appearance of any fall tablescape.

Find this serveware in Williams Sonoma stores or online at WS SERVE.

eBay seemed to have the best selection of Halloween spreaders this year, if you have the patience to look for them.  We’ve picked a few to show here.  Most o them have been gently used, and some are available through more than one seller, so if there’s something you really like and price is an issue, keep looking for other sellers.

The first three rows are spreader sets.  The next to last row has spreader & plate sets and the bottom row has spreader and bowl sets.  We tried several search approaches, looking for one link that had all, or most of these items; the only search that did that  (cheese spreaders) returned over 900 items. However, we found that if you start at and search on the word for the feature you are most interested in, like PUMPKIN CHEESE SPREADERS or LEAF CHEESE SPREADERS, that helps a lot.  If the sets don’t show up, add “and plate” or “and bowl” to the spreader description and search again.  Even so, you will have to wade through Christmas spreaders and others, but it beats searching through hundreds.  To use  the two searches suggested above, see EBAY PUMPKIN or EBAY LEAF.

Swoozies opened their first store in Buckhead in Atlanta, Georgia in 2001.  Half of the store features invitations & stationery and half is devoted to gifts, many of them being personalized.  The gift area of the store is theme based, changing with the seasons.  The folks at Swoozie’s are passionate about many things, including recognizing and celebrating life’s occasions.  There are now ten Swoozie’s stores, mostly in the Southern states, most recently in the Denver area, and  They have treatments for drinkware seen nowhere else, and their sense of humor is readily apparent in all their product categories.

Swoozie’s Tailgate themed serveware is sturdy Melamine.  The square football platter on the top left is  16” diameter and the dip bowl on the right is 6” x 4”.  The football shaped bowls on the bottom are snack bowls.  The bowl on the left is an End Zone 3 section bowl (13” x 9” x 3”) and the bowls on the right are sold in a set of 3 snacking bowls (largest is 5/75” x 4” and smallest is 4.25” x 1.75”).  This serveware is so strong it could probably survive  actually being in the game.

Above are 2 of their megaphone treat holders.  Each holds about 32 oz.  They’re great for popcorn or even wings.  These are easy to hold, but you can set them on a table if you need to.

Top left above is a 72” x 14” football field table runner.  You’ve began to see how serious Swoozie’s is about football, but the beverage napkins take you in a different direction, you might just laugh out loud.  Most of Swoozie’s beverage napkins have corresponding cups and glasses of various kinds (see our DRINKEARE page), so you’re totally covered for any kind of tailgating.  Find these and more tailgating serveware in Sqoozie’s stores or online at SW SERVE.

Etsy provide “storefronts” for over 2 million sellers, most of whom are selling unique, custom, vintage or handcrafted items.  We feature some of those store owners in the Where To Find It pages, but here we have chosen to search Etsy looking for fall spreaders, and we found some nice ones.

These are all vintage items.  The top row features spreader sets and the bottom row features spreader and bowl sets.  Find these items online at ETSY PUMPKIN or ETSY LEAF.
