Dill with garlic and lemon combine to perfectly compliment salmon in our Dill Lover’s Dip Mix for Salmon.  You add the salmon (grilled, poached, smoked, baked and canned all work).  Mix salmon into the dip or use lox on top.  Delicious on cocktail pumpernickel or rye bread either way.  Pictured with lox on cocktail rye and white wine, it’s a lovely, sophisticated Christmas appetizer and has been a popular flavor combo for generations.

Use seasonal cookie cutters to cut out your favorite bread; toast bread and spread with dip (white toast cut in Christmas tree shapes pictured).  Garnish with dill sprigs if desired.  Note:  Cutout sandwiches are not just for kids.  Adults love these Christmas party appetizers too.

TIP:  Cut bread before toasting.  Use medium size cookie cutters so pieces are just big enough for 2-3 small bites.  Mini-cutters are often too small for cutout details to be noticeable; large cutters make pieces too large to handle easily.   Choose cutters that reflect the season (stars, snowmen, hearts, shamrocks, flags, footballs) or special interests (pets, train, airplane, sail boat, state, baby bootie); avoid those with narrow “tails” that make spreading difficult; examples:

Dry white wines and Lemon Drop martinis are delicious with this flavor profile.

MORE ON HOW TO SERVE THIS DIP FOR EASY CHRISTMAS AND ALL HOLIDAY ENTERTAINING:

Smoked Fish Spread:  Absolutely striking as Dilled Salmon Spread with smoked salmon (pictured).  Substitute smoked trout, bluefish or whitefish for a whole new delicious experience. Served with crackers or cocktail rye bread, this is a retro, classic holiday party appetizer.

Bagel Spread:  Use it to replace the usual lox and schmear for Dilled Salmon Bagels; accompany with a dry white wine for Christmas brunch (pictured).  Add capers and red onion slices if desired.

Salad Dressing:  Use this with just mayo for Dilled Dressing.  Pictured as a dressing for Dilled Tuna Macaroni Salad.  Also great in place of simple mayo in Dilled Tuna Salad for sandwiches.

Wow your guests with inspired flavor combinations using this dip/spread.  Choose from a whole variety of tasty fish, or even chicken and turkey. The hard part is choosing which easy ideas you want to use for Christmas parties or buffets.
