This creamy soup is spicy, but not quite chili-head hot.  Our Sweet and Spicy Soup Mix is a pallet used to enhance any vegetable that can be mashed (pumpkin, butternut squash, sweet potatoes, carrots).  Add chopped ham, smoked turkey or even shrimp to compete a unique flavor combination.  Pumpkin and ham soup is pictured.  It’s a perfect fall appetizer for those who want to spice up their dinner.  It pairs well with semi-dry wines like Rieslings and many fall craft ales.

If you need an excuse for another party, consider hosting an ale tasting party for some of the ales seasonally available (pumpkin ale comes to mind for those who really like the flavor).  You can supply the ale, or invite guests to bring their favorites to share.  The soup’s sweet heat profile pairs perfectly with ale’s bitterness.  IPAs go particularly well with this soup, there are lots of them to sample, and they’re popular year round!

TIP:  Serve soup in snack cups for easy clean up
TIP:  This soup works just as well for card parties or game nights, especially when it’s a chilly fall day.
